What to Wear...

RELAX!  It’s not about what you wear, but more importantly about having relaxed and happy people in the photos!  That being said, there are a few tips that make for better images:

  • Stay away from logos and busy patterns on clothing.
  • Don’t be afraid to add a pop of color!  Avoid matching exactly, but DO color coordinate.  The same colors, in different shades, should be repeated throughout the photo…so, if you are doing a family portrait, make sure that everyone is wearing colors that complement each other.
  • Keep in mind the backdrop for your photos, whether outdoor or in studio.  Make sure the colors and styles you choose make sense with the setting.
  • Make sure you and your family feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing.  If you don’t like it in the mirror, you definitely won’t like it in pictures!
  • For large group or family photos, it can be helpful to outfit one person first (you or your baby, etc.) and build everyone else's attire from there.  This is especially helpful if you have an outfit for one person in the group that you absolutely LOVE!
  • Take into consideration the color scheme throughout your home when choosing your attire.  Would you be okay with an enlargement of your child in bright yellow rain boots hanging on your wall?  If so, then go for it!  But, if you prefer more subtle tones, be sure to keep that in mind when selecting your wardrobe.  Photos can be a beautiful and meaningful way to decorate, so make sure you love the colors enough to display them in your home!
  • Don't forget the props!  Special items you bring from home can help personalize your pictures and add a story to the photographs.  Props can be anything from a favorite baby blanket to an antique car...the sky is the limit!
